 A Roleplay How To.
« Thread Started on Sept 15, 2008, 5:52pm »

Text based roleplay is like writing a story, but involving more people. You write about what your character see's, hear's, what they look like, how they act and how they speak, in this tutorila i will be showing you how to transform a "one-liner" to an adequate post length.

What They See
Instead of writing:

Absinthe can see a bush, a road and people

You could write:

Absinthe could see a row of bushes, the sun glinting of the each green leaf and moving slightly in the wind. The road was abandand, and you could see the heat rising from the tarmac, the streets were practically overflowing as the huge crowd pushed and shoved to get to their destination.

The second version is more descriptive and allows the reader to picture the scene, where as the first one is plain and boring.

What They Hear
Instead of writing:

Absinthe could hear the people walking past her.

You could try writing this:

The loud sound of so many feet stomping past her, was deafening, it was the only sound to be heard, the sounds of pad, pad, pad on the pavement was enough to drive anyone mad after a long period of time.

The first version just tells the reader what reader what the character hears, but its not enough for the reader themselves to imagine it.

What They Look Like
Instead of writing:

Absinthe saw a tall man walking down the street.

You could try writing this:

Absinthe saw a tall, heavily armored, man walking down the street in her direction. She couldn't make out, from this distance, if he was a warrior or a mercenary. One glimpse of his gun told her that it didn't matter if he got much closer and had the chance to blow her to itty bitty pieces.

The second version, though still a bit vague on physical descriptions, is considerably more detailed than the first. It also gives other readers the chance to imagine who or what this approaching could be.
